Vodacom and Subaru partner up to change the future of motoring
Vodacom are
well known for their innovations in the world Telecommunications technology but
this is just revolutionary
Recently a
team of developers from their technological Research and development division
have been working on a system which can be connected to a cars computer box and
enhancing its handling in the event of poor weather or accident on the road.

Vodacom has partnered up with Subaru Americas rally cross team to develop a new
form of self-stabilizing technology that will implement which will change the
future of motoring. This tech will make commuting easier and safer for the
driver regardless of weather or terrain, within reason of course. It works with
a series of sensors located all around the vehicle, including the bottom of the
vehicle. These sensors send instruction to the wheels and the drive train and
adjust to the weather and terrain accordingly. Vodacom themselves say they have
been developing this system since 2017 and have o
nly felt confident to start
testing in late 2020.On November 5 2020 the first prototype went for testing on
Subaru’s testing facility
The system, designated “project Scorpio”, is being tested using Subaru America’s 2019 WRX STI rally car which is being driven by none other than Travis Pastrana himself. The resin for this is because they need an experienced driver who would be able to control the car if any failures occur and also because the test track is able to simulate just about any road conditions most civilians would encounter.
The idea behind this system came into existence after the CEO of Subaru America, Mr. Tom Doll, was in a severe car accident in early 2017, later that year he approached the head of technological research and development at Vodacom and during their meet they came up with idea of a self-stabilizing traction and weather sensory system that would be able to stabilize a car and bring it to a safe halt in the event that the driver loses control of the vehicle. “In late 2017 I went to visit the head of technological research and development team at Vodacom’s headquarters in South Africa. I’d heard they were thinking of expanding into newer territories and I figured what would be the harm and telling them about my idea about the sensory system…and here we are today actually testing out the prototype.” Tom Doll 2020
Vodacom, a mobile communications company based in the Gauteng province of South Africa, has been developing some of the most innovative telecommunication’s technologies for the past two decades. It has recently partnered up with Subaru’s American division to develop a new self-stabilizing weather and terrain sensory device for their cars.
